The Advent Conspiracy is a Christ based organization doing everything it can to re-center Christmas around Christ, or as their website says, “It starts with Jesus. It ends with Jesus.”

Their mission to is encourage others to worship fully this season, spend less, give more, and love all. It’s actually a pretty simple and easy, yet radical concept. They’re not some sort of fringe organization asking you to give up buying gifts for your friends and family, nor are they condemning gift giving in any way. They’re simply asking people to buy one less present this year and give that money to someone in need. This could be your church, your favorite charity, or as they emphasize, an organization that provides clean water to folks that need it.

This isn’t one of those out of whack, unrealistic movements that require a lot of wrangling and headache. You can start right now, this Christmas. When you buy one less present, include your husband, wife, sister, brother, mother, father, daughter or son in the decision making process for where to send the money you would have spent on that one present. Then who knows, maybe next year they’ll want to do the same thing and then the year after that and the year after that…

It’s a small change that makes a big difference. Let’s re-center our Christmas around Christ.
